What board types will this kit work with?
This kit (initially) only works for the Midway black and white monitor style game. The board set can be either Space Invaders or Space Invaders Deluxe. The board set consist of 2 pcbs in an L shaped configuration.
Will it work in my cocktail game?
Yes it should, as long as it is a Midway black and white style cocktail and not the color taito version. It should be noted that the game software is unaware of whether the game board is installed into a cocktail cabinet or an upright cabinet, and that differences (strapping options) on the sound/input pcb of the boardset determine if it is configured for cocktail or upright. Additionally, the cocktail screen flipping function is done by relays in the monitor itself which will swap the yoke wires.
What are the differences in the real games versus the multigame?
Good question. The answer apart from the extra features (such as free play, diagnostics, and high score save), would be sounds. I only own SI and SID games, so I'm not sure at this point how different the sounds are for the other games. All sounds are mapped onto the 8 available sounds that your SI/SID boardset provides. The sounds for SI/SID are close to identical.
Additional configuration options have been added that were not available on the original games. Such as more options for number of laser bases and extra score levels for bonus awards including no bonus awards.
Some games have extended scoring which was not part of the original game

Great Kit - A Must for Space Invaders Owners
Easy installation onto the Taito L shaped boards, just make sure to put the processor and the board in the right way as explained in the install guide. Second one of these I have purchased (Taito & Midway). If you have any questions they are very responsive to answer them.
Works with Taito 3 board Stack
Works on my upright Taito Trimline SI (cabaret). To test it I had to remove the CPU which was soldered in place and install a socket. Next place the CPU into the daughter board. Then I had to put some headers to give the daughter board clearance over nearby CAPs. In the cage box the board interferes with one of the two screwed bar posts so I had to remove one. I'll install a Easy Coin Up quarter pushbutton to get credit for the game that is not set for free play.
SHIP to UK in 2021 - fast and easy
I was Worried about changes in the uk, but all was fast and easy. Did pay the expected import VAT (order was for 2 multi's and over £135 threshold)
The kit works brilliant, and if I can fit it - anyone can! EASY
Easy kit to install
Excellent service and excellent kit!
Great kit for my Taito cabaret
Easy installation on the 3 pcb stack
The space invaders also works but when I turn it on I get a “self test failed screen” and then I press fire and it goes to game select. Is this normal?
It's normal if there is an issue on your pcb and the tests are finding it…
There is an issue with the bit counter on your pcb somewhere. You may or have may not seen it before the kit, that’s why the kit still allows you to play as it’s not a major error…

Can the roms be removed with this kit installed?
Yes. The SI, SI Taito and SID Multigame kits can be used as a rom saver. In fact, 99% of all the kits out there (mine, Braze, whatever others) can do this and save you the headache of trying to replace roms and sockets. Some eproms are getting harder to find and some programmers that hobbyists use cannot program them anyways.
Always best to get a HSS kit and enjoy the added functions like multigame, attract sounds free play and more!
Do you have this for Taito color version yet?
Some details -
Taito boards can be L-shaped, 3 board stacks, color, more pcb variations, dual sound cards, more game variations, etc.
In short, yes, the kit will work. It will be B&W.
The kit does not do color prom switching. The core of all these games are the same from the CPU perspective. Color was just an add on circuit, the kit knows nothing about color or Black & White monitors. Nor, can control that.
What would cause this error? See attached. Game boots but does not allow game selection.
The input INP test failed.
There is a stuck input or more likely a switch wired backwards (eg. always on, instead of just one when pressed). Maybe the fire button or start button. Probably just have the wire attached to the normally closed tab instead of the normally open tab. The games will not work correctly if any switch is backwards. Some games you might not notice.
IN1 is probably the culprit and guess is both start buttons and coin switch are all 3 backwards from a quick scan of the MAME source code.
