Best upgrade ever invented for Space Zap
My very first High Score Save Kit from Joe & Jochen. The Space Zap HSS kit blew my mind when it first came out and started my HSS kit buying frenzy! Get the online version, it's the best!
What is "enhanced mode" on Space Zap?
Normal (or standard) = Coin Counter 1 - The output is used as a coin counter
Enhanced = Coin Counter 1 - The output is used to control (for example) a 12v LED strip for explosions...(it flashes in the opposite way of the explosion on screen)
--------------------------------------
Hardware modifications / Explanation -
The plug inside the coin door (coming from the main harness) that connects to coin counter 1 has 2 wires -
- Blue/Red = +10.5 volts DC
- Black/Red = This wire is switched by the gamecode to gnd...
Usually, the code switches the black/red wire to gnd for a few milliseconds (to count) after a coin is inserted.
When you switch to enhanced mode -
Use these two wires to connect to a black lightt LED strip (with an input voltage of approximately +12v DC)
Now, the led strip will flash in the opposite way like the explosion flashes!
Put one led strip on the very left, as well one led strip on the very right of the black cardboard bezel (between cardboard and glass bezel)
See the quick video under the Video Tab. This will show the effects on a Spaze Zap cabaret!
I see there are multiple high score save kits for the same game. What's the difference? Which one should I choose?
Great Question!
While all of the high score save kits save scores, have an on screen menu for difficulty settings and other features like attract sounds (Please see the description under each kit for full details)
There are usually 2 or 3 main types -
